The Betancourt Bridge is a fixed, 15-span bridge spanning the Malaya Neva River between Petrovsky Island and Dekabristov Island above Serny Island. The total length of the crossing is 970 meters, and its width ranges from 38.2 to 44.7 meters. The bridge superstructure comprises both girder spans and cable-stayed span units.
The crossing provides the round-the-clock transport connection between Vassilievsky Island and the central parts of the city. The bridge has six traffic lanes, a bicycle lane, and a sidewalk.
History
The Betancourt Bridge was built for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and the project also included the reconstruction of the old Malo-Petrovsky Bridge (which was dismantled).
The design was developed by Stroyproekt Institute JSC and construction work was completed by Pilon CJSC. Design and construction work was carried out in 2003–2018.
In combination with the Western High-Speed Diameter and Makarov Embankment, the bridge provides the shortest route between the Pulkovo Airport and the Gazprom Arena Stadium.
In 2018, the bridge was named after Agustín de Betancourt (1758–1824), an outstanding Spanish and Russian engineer.
